Bandra - Worli Sea link to Connect Western Mumbai

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link is all set to become the new landmark of Mumbai. After commissioning it is all set to change the way of travel on this stretch of western Mumbai. It is a 4.7 kilometer, eight-lane link. It promises to cut travel time between Lovegrove Junction in Worli to Mahim Junction, which ranges between 35 minutes to an hour during peak hour traffic at present.

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link will be an engineering masterpiece once finished. It weighs as much as 50,000 African elephants, the tallest tower equals a 43-storey building and steel wires that could be lined up to form the circumference of the earth have been used to make it. Each of the concrete girders weighs more than 150 metric tonnes. The massive cranes help move the girders. A 96-wheel trolley helps carry the enormous structure to fit one into another and form a continuation of a bridge that will go on and connect to the other end. Come December 2008, one side will be opened for use. Six months later the project will be completed, after which it will then be stretched on, all the way up to Nariman Point. Mumbaikars will have to wait a couple of years more for this to be finished.

Latest movie Velli Therai Movie Review

Director Viji has lived up to the expectation in successfully remaking the Mohanlal starrer Malayalam flick ‘Udhayananu Tharam’, The film is about two friends who want to make it big in cinema. Saravanan (Prithviraj), a genuine person in filmmaking aspires to become a director. Kannaiya (Prakash Raj) has a dream to become a big star without trying to develop the qualities required. Saravanan is a person, who believes in hard work and sincerity and Kannaiya wants to become a star at any cost. Kannaiya is middle aged with a fat body and not a hero material but is determined to become one.

He roams around the studios and keeps on meeting the big wigs of the film industry for many years. So he wants to become hero at any cost. He is always ready to do anything. He even betrays his Saravanan by looting his script and gets a chance to act by using his fine script. He thus becomes an actor and with a superb performance in his debut movie, soon becomes a star. He transforms into Dilipkanth. He develops the negative attitude of stardom and starts to dictate terms.

But Saravanan meets with a string of failures. He loves Mythily (Gopika) who is a top heroine and she loves him so much. She was tortured by his brother Dinesh (Sampathraj) and thus comes to Saravanan`s house and marries him. She even gives up acting while Saravanan is struggling to earn. He is deeply hurt and dejected and loses faith in life. But suddenly producer (Sarath Babu), who gave the lift to Kannaiya gives him a chance to prove himself but he has to make the film featuring Dilipkanth, his betenoire. Faced with this difficult situation he accepts this condition. He is not allowed by the star to do what he wants to do. The battle intensifies and reaches a boiling point. The rest of the movie tells you who claims victory over the other. The brilliantly conceived and executed climax settles things in a convincing manner.

The Director adapted the original and has come out with an enjoyable movie with right mix of comedy, drama, sentiment. The struggle of the aspirants in Kollywood is realistically portrayed. There are some minuses as well. The way mythily gets separated from Saravanan is not convincing. The portrayal the sudden growth of the star seems incredible.

It is Prakash Raj all the way with his powerful performance. He carries the film on his shoulders. He has clearly depicted the different shades of his character with ease. The versatile actor has once again proved his mettle. Prithviraj was impressive as an aspiring director. The way he reacts to the betrayal is flawless. He expresses the anger and agony of being cheated with amazing ease. Sarath Babu looks fresh. His handling of the character is a great asset to the film. M.S. Baskar and Charlie are very impressive. Trisha was pleasing in a guest appearance is pleasing. Gopika looks pleasing and acts well. She provides some romantic and emotional dimension to the movie. Lakshmi Rai as a popular heroine was adept. G.V. Prakash has done well with back ground score. The songs are very nice.

ROBOT right on track - Pooja on April

Superstar Rajni seems to be in a hurry these days as far as his films are concerned. The much awaited pooja of 'Robot' aided by the combo Shankar and the Superstar Rajnikanth will be held around April 14 and is all set to go on floors by May. The photo-shoot was held in February at AVM Studios, Chennai. The music director A.R. Rahman too will start his work for the movie very soon. In spite of the unexpected demise of writer Sujatha, who was working with Shankar for finalizing the script, the film will soon be started. It was Sujatha who aided in his recent film and he was well versed in scientific matters. It would thus be a Herculean task for the movie team to find a suitable person to write the dialogues for the sci-fi movie. It is expected that Rajini would finish his portions in ‘Kuselan’ before 'Robot' goes to the floors by May 2008. Meanwhile Rajni was awestruck by the clippings of ‘Sultan the Warrior’ that were shown to him by his daughter and he was so eager to start dubbing for the film which will be released probably next year.

The second round of auction for IPL Teams is set to take place in Mumbai on Tuesday. Rajasthan Royals are best placed to make the most of the situation as they have US$2.05 million of unspent money, the most among the franchises, and are looking to sign up a couple of Australians, including Shane Watson and James Hopes. Eighteen players are up for grabs in this round with 16 Under-19 players being decided by the so called draft pick. Other franchises are focusing on buying U-19 players on the auction date.

Bangalore need focus on boosting their batting strength and should look to pick up at least one batsman during the auction. The Hyderabad franchisee has recently signed up former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar and is not seriously looking to pick up anyone here. The Chennai and Mumbai teams do not have much money with them and want to focus on the U-19 players in this auction round. TVS FLAME TO BE RELAUNCHED!!

The TVS Motor Co will re-launch the 125 cc Flame motorcycle with only a single spark plug ignition next week in an effort to cut losses due to the patent dispute with the makers of Pulsar, Bajaj Auto. Metro rail in MUMBAI

The Mumbai Metro should be the answer to the city’s commuting woes. And Mumbai’s local trains will soon have a competitor. The three-phase Metro rail will be move across 40 km on the 14 km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar route connecting Colaba-Mahim-Charkop in Phase two. The Metro will change the way half a million people travel from the daily grime of packed trains and buses to a silent, air-conditioned mode of transport. It will also add a crucial link between Mahim-Bandra Kurla-Mankhurd on the eastern suburbs. To run on elevated platforms cutting through dense traffic; Metro is a joint venture of Anil Ambani's Reliance and the Mumbai Metropolitan Authority.

The Twenty Thousand crore project may be India's most expensive mass rapid transit system bringing smiles on the faces of more than six million people who brave perhaps the country's worst transportation system. And Delhi has shown the way where a 60 km Metro network is almost to be completed in record time. But it is not easy. With civil work on line one already in progress, authorities are optimistic Mumbaikars could get to ride the Metro in 2011.

Harbhajan Singh interview in Delhi

Harbhajan Singh made plenty of news for various reasons in Australia. During the second Test at Sydney, the Indian off-spinner was accused by Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds of racially abusing him and banned for three Tests. The ICC (International Cricket Council) hearing later lifted the ban. Australian opener Matthew Hayden then called him an 'obnoxious little weed' on a Brisbane radio channel and then the Australian media accused him of making 'monkey gestures' towards the crowd during the CB series` first final in Sydney. After coming to Delhi on Thursday, Harbhajan said that he enjoyed the tour Down Under. He said and I quote “I thought only cricket was hard to play in Australia but there were other things as well which were more harder than cricket. Anyways I enjoyed my time there. The best way to do it is if you perform well on the ground and nothing can be more than that. Glad we have done that rather than saying things in the field. We have done it with the bat and ball”.

Meghalaya and Tripura Assembly Polls Results Today

Today is a big day for the two hill states of Northeast India, as Meghalaya and Tripura as the votes polled in the assembly elections will be counted. The main contest in the two states is between UPA allies, congress and NCP. In Meghalaya, the Nationalist Congress Party is trying hard to capture power from the Congress and former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno Sangma is spearheading the operations of the party. In Tripura, it is between the ruling Left Front and the Congress-Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura. The polls conducted on February 23 in Tripura and on March 3 in Meghalaya. Both states have 60 seats each. There are 313 candidates in Tripura while 331 candidates in Meghalaya. Sangma was the CM of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990. Despite heading a coalition government with 48 members, he was toppled by late chief minister B B Lyngdoh. But it's not just the NCP that the Congress is fighting. The party is also pitted against its partners in power - the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the Meghalaya Democratic Party, the parties that made corruption under congress regime a big issue.

Clinton takes Ohio and McCain wins nomination

Sen. Hillary Clinton won in Ohio, which was very much essential for her to stay alive in the presidential race. Clinton earlier broke Obama's 12-contest winning streak with her victory in Rhode Island. Obama was projected to take Vermont, but the contest in Texas was too close to call.

Senator John McCain won all four Republican contests on Tuesday to become his party's probable candidate. McCain won the primaries in Texas, Ohio, Vermont and Rhode Island which gave him more than the 1,191 delegates required to clinch the GOP nomination.

"I am very, very grateful and pleased to note that tonight, my friends, we have won enough delegates to claim with confidence, humility and a great sense of responsibility, that I will be the Republican nominee for president of the United States," McCain told supporters on Tuesday night. In the meanwhile, Mike Huckabee dropped out of the Republican race after the results came in. "It's now important that we turn our attention not to what could have been or what we wanted to have been, but now what must be -- and that is a united party," Huckabee told supporters in Dallas.

McCain is planning to go to the White House on Wednesday to receive the endorsement of President Bush, according to reliable Republican sources. This being his second run for the White House was largely written off last summer amid outspoken opposition from the party's conservative base and disappointing fundraising. But he said earlier Tuesday that he was quite confident that he would emerge as the nominee by the end of the night.

Obama's campaign pressed to extend voting by one hour in two Ohio counties. See county-by-county results in Ohio. "Due to reports of ballot shortages in Cuyahoga and Franklin counties, we requested a voting extension in those counties," said Obama spokesman Bill Burton. In Texas, Clinton holds a 2 to 1 advantage over Obama with Hispanic voters, while Obama has the overwhelming advantage with black voters in the state's Democratic primary, according to CNN's exit poll. Eighty-three per cent of blacks voted for Obama, while 16 per cent supported Clinton, according to the exit poll.

CB Series win - A Testimony to Dhoni`s leadership

Mahendra Singh Dhoni led the Indian team to a historic win against Australia in the Commonwealth Bank Series at Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday. Not many people gave much chance to the young Indian team against Ricky Ponting's team but in the end Dhoni`s youngsters mentored by ageing pro Sachin Tendulkar showed that Ponting`s men can be beaten.

"Of course it was very important because I believe that this is the building stage of my team. Youngsters are in and we have left a few seniors out of the side and there were a lot of questions asked about whether the team can do well in Australia. They say the conditions are tough here to topple the best team in the world," Dhoni said at the post-match press conference. Dhoni admitted that the team was under pressure at the beginning of the tri-series. The Indian skipper said that after the T20 game the pressure was on them especially in the batting department and the onus was on them to prove the critics wrong and they did exactly that. He also gave full credit to Sachin said that the good starts provided by him were critical to the team's success. The other players, too, were ecstatic after the win.

"Well we have won the series. This is what we wanted to do. We are really happy and it’s a great feeling. It is much relief now. Hopefully everything will settle down," Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, said.

"I was not bothered about that. I was here to play some good cricket and I have played throughout the summer we have played fantastic cricket. We are really happy and I am really proud," Harbhajan replied when asked if the controversies affected him.

"It's a great feeling. Winning in Australia for the first time is great and personal performance doesn’t matter. To be honest we play for the country and we try and win for the country," Gautam Gambhir, top scored in the series, said.
