TITANIC VOTED BEST FILM EVER

Oscar-winning film Titanic which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in lead roles has been voted the greatest ever movie blockbuster in a poll of 6,000 film fans. The James Cameron’s 1997 romantic drama, which grossed a record 500 million pounds, beat out the 2005 remake of King Kong, which took the second place, reports the Sun.

Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring landed the third spot while Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi stood fourth. Rounding off the top five was Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. The list of top 10 greatest ever movie blockbusters:

Dasavatharam Story - A hint!!

Ulaga Nayagan Kamalhassan who has penned the story, screenplay and even written dialogues for his magnum opus Dasavatharam, has said that working on the screenplay was the toughest part, as the subject itself was very complex. This out of the ordinary story line should be another reason to draw the crowds to the theaters.

This movie will in all probability definitely pose a challenge to Hollywood movies and there is a negligible chance that it won’t be a box office hit.

He has revealed a hint about the storyline of the movie Dasavatharam recently. He says that his story telling techniques are time tested and would keep it simple. He mentioned that the film’s story deals with environment, science and religion. Kamal who is Busy with the post production work now, Kamal, took time off his hectic schedule to talk about the mega project to the "The Hindu". And for the very first time, the actor lets us know Dasavatharam is about putting all the speculations to rest. In his own words, “Dasavatharam has a lot of Al Gore in it, and also Ramanujar.” From Kamal’s statement it can be understood that he has explored religion at great length in the film.

Quantum Of Solace - The story

Quantum of solace is the twenty second spy film in EON Productions' James Bond film series, due for release in the United Kingdom on 31 October 2008. It is the sequel to the 2006 film Casino Royale. Directed by Marc Forster, and features Daniel Craig's performance as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. Casino Royale's Paul Haggis, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade returned as writers, alongside newcomer Joshua Zetumer. In the film, Bond battles Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a member of the Quantum organization posing as an environmentalist, who intends to stage a coup d'état in Bolivia to take control of its water supply. Bond seeks revenge for the death of Vesper Lynd, and is assisted by Camille (Olga Kurylenko), who also wants to kill Greene. The title was chosen from an unrelated short story in Ian Fleming's For Your Eyes Only (1960).

Producer Michael G. Wilson created the film's story whilst Casino Royale was shooting. The film was originally scheduled for a 2 May 2008 release, but it was pushed back to allow more time when Roger Michell dropped out as director. Second unit filming began in August 2007 at Siena and Madrid, before principal photography began in January 2008 at Pinewood Studios. Production designer Dennis Gassner took over from Peter Lamont, who retired after working on eighteen Bond films. He designed the five major Pinewood sets, which stand in for Siena, Bolivia and the MI6 headquarters. Gassner's designs are close to the modernism of Ken Adam, the first Bond production designer. Location filming will take place at Panama, Chile, Italy and Austria, before moving back to Pinewood in June. There will be more gadgets than in Casino Royale, though they will still aim to be realistic.

Vikram celebrates Birthday today amid much fanfare

Actor ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram celebrated his birthday in a noble way by pledging his eyes. The fans greeted Chiyan Vikram in very large numbers on his birthday today. The versatile hero of Tamil cinema, Vikram said, “It is an occasion for me to look back at my journey so far. It is filled with pain, embarrassment and mixed emotions. Success made me matures”. “The struggles made me stronger and I am here ready to face any challenges”, he said.

Looking back at his carrer, the film that gave his first break to his career was Bala`s ‘Sethu’. It was followed by some challenging roles in films like ‘Kasi’, ‘Pithamagan’, ‘Anniyan. 'Pithamagan' won him the most prestigious National Award, which was conferred on him by the President of India. He is currently acting in the Susi Ganesan directed mega budget film ‘Kanthaswamy’ in various get ups.

Thanking his fans, he said, “Whether I give three films a year or one film in three year, my fans are ready to wait and celebrate. For these ardent fans, I want to do something. I want to pay them back in a proper way”. Vikram also launched the website on the occasion through which he would interact with his fans and answer all their queries. “On this day, I have resolved to donate my eyes along with 1000 fans. Vikram Foundation has been created to render social service activities to the poor”, he said.

At new IITs, 27% OBC quota from this year

It has already been announced that the seven existing IITs in the country will implement 9% OBC quota from 2008-09 academic session. However, the three new IITs in Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan, which start operations from the coming session, will implement the entire 27% OBC quota in one go. For OBC students, the cutoff has been fixed at 90% of the cutoff for general category students. The Joint Admission Board of JEE 2008, which includes the seven IIT directors and representatives from the HRD ministry, met here on Wednesday to chalk out the quota roadmap. It was decided that the existing IITs would be able to implement 27% OBC quota only by 2010.

The directors of the seven IITs agreed that it was a massive challenge to increase the number of seats from this year while ensuring that standards are maintained. "We would have preferred it if the new IITs were started next year. We need more teachers and infrastructure. We will require recurring funding from the government to make extra classrooms, laboratories and hostels in the next two years. At present, some IITs have adequate infrastructure to place 13% extra students but others will have to manage. However, we will not compromise on quality," said Surendra Prasad, director, IIT Delhi. In IIT Delhi there are 556 posts for teachers as of now. About 300 more teachers will be required by 2010. "The requirement is similar in all other IITs," said Prasad. The seven IITs at Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Mumbai, Guwahati and Chennai will also be increasing the number of seats by 13% this year so that the 9% OBC quota can be implemented without changing the number of seats for the general category students. The three new IITs will have 120 seats each, of which 49.5% will be reserved. These IITs will be ‘mentored' by IITs at Delhi and Kanpur.

The Joint Admission Board of IIT decided that after the merit lists of general category and OBC are released, students seeking an OBC seat will be asked to furnish a certificate to prove their non-creamy layer status. Prasad clarified that an OBC candidate can seek a general category seat if he or she meets the required cut-off. "Only the income of parents will be sought in the application form of OBC students. However, existing norms of the government will be followed to verify the category status of a candidate. We will go by the central OBC list," said Gautam Barua, director, IIT Guwahati.

TIPS TO AVOID CREDIT CARD FRAUDS

1. Every credit card carries its expiry date, but we love to hoard them anyway. Some of us have multiple cards, multiple versions. It is but natural for a bulging wallet to beg for disposal of the dated beauties. Before tossing them away swiftly, ensure that you have cut them up into four. Make sure the magnetic strip (the black strip) behind the card is not left intact since it holds key information that can be misused. The rule to remember is to lighten the wallet of credit cards, only in the presence of an obliging pair of scissors. Cut them up and only then throw them away. There is a critical 3-digit number on the back of the card called CVV (card verification value). If you have detached the card from the fat mailer that came with it, and generally flung away the accompanying literature, read on. The 16-digit card number, expiry date and CVV together, are enough to complete an Internet transaction. Modern card thieves are computer-savvy. Memorise, note-down (elsewhere please, not on the card itself) and blacken the CVV. Better still, hang around when your card is being swiped.

2. A card's magnetic strip has the basic details of the cardholder. But the card also comes with a blank space for you to sign in. The authentication of the card is done by you. Take a minute and sign in. Else anyone who may get your blank card, can sign in and use it. Needless to add, the bills will come in your name to your address.

3. PINs are 4-digit numbers that have to be used to draw money at the ATM. It is so difficult to remember them all, given the 8 different cards that you have. So you decided to simplify matters by noting that number on the card itself. The thief who got your card hit a double whammy - the card and the PIN, both in one piece - so money can be drawn with ease. Think before you ink that PIN.

4. Always browse through your billing statement. Yes, it is sad re-living all the impulsive spends, but identify each line there, all the same. If you are the organized kind, you will keep all charge slips with you and compare them with the bill. If you find that there is some spend that you cannot account for, call your issuing bank and complain. If you own a card, take the trouble of noting down its number, expiry date, and customer care number in one place. If you lose your card, you can at least inform customer care, while hoping (or praying if you are a believer) that the card thief has not swiped away.
